What we do

Relevant education is one of the best ways to help refugees improve their chances of a better future. Sadly, for most refugees, this can be the hardest support to access. We seek to bridge this gap by providing access to education that significantly improves prospects for refugees, even refugees on the move.

We work together with trusted partners to deliver training and support that helps refugees move towards their goals and towards qualifications to improve their prospects of securing scholarships or skilled visas and other humanitarian immigration opportunities.

Our Mission

Global Refugee Academy seeks to support refugees with relevant learning content, provided safely, to help their prospects of securing pathways to safety, with enhanced settlement outcomes supported by meaningful income-earning opportunities.

A Growing Crisis...

The world is facing a growing refugee crisis, by 2022 according to UNHCR over 100 million people were displaced with 5.6 million Afghan refugees in Asia – climate-change driven unrest is expected to greatly exacerbate this problem. On average, refugees can spend 10-15 years in displacement, however for some it is a great deal more, for example, 1.9 million Afghan refugees in Asia have remained displaced for between 35 and 40 years.  During this time, refugees live in insecurity and fear, lacking access to education, employment or prospects of building a stable life.

Promising new pathways
are opening…

There are now more options for refugees... including refugee work and study visas, and community sponsorship.

However, a key link is still missing

In order to access education and employment pathways, people seeking refuge need certifications, job ready skills, and the ability to meet minimum language requirements for both visas and academic programs.

Without access to trusted and suitable training and support, this can be almost impossible . We work to identify and help people properly prepare for suitable refugee work and study visa opportunities.

Our Story

When Kabul fell to the Taliban in August of 2020, a group of senior executive women formed to address the plight of at-risk Afghan career women and help them to find jobs and visas to Australia. The group helped over 200 Afghan refugees to come to Australia on work visas through the Talent Beyond Boundaries pilot.

It quickly became apparent that there was a huge demand for access skills to help people prepare for western workplaces.

In 2023 the group initiated English language classes  and the Global Refugee Academy was formed in December 2023.
